Two AI Giants, One IPO Window
On June 1, 2026, Anthropic filed a confidential Form S-1 with the SEC, targeting a public listing as early as October 2026. At a $965 billion post-money valuation following its $65B Series H, Anthropic has leapfrogged OpenAI ($840B) as the world's most valuable AI startup. Both companies are now racing to the public markets in the same quarter.
For enterprise AI teams, this is unprecedented: your two primary LLM providers are both transitioning to public companies simultaneously. This changes the game for pricing, reliability, vendor strategy, and long-term planning.
The Numbers Behind Anthropic's IPO
Key Metrics
- Valuation: $965 billion (post-money, Series H)
- Annualised revenue: $47 billion run-rate — driven by enterprise adoption and Claude Code
- Top backers: Amazon ($13B invested, stake now worth ~$74B on paper), Alphabet (~14% stake)
- Infrastructure: $1.25B/month compute deal with SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center
- Target listing: NASDAQ, ticker likely "ANTHROPIC", October 2026
What Dual AI IPOs Mean for Enterprise Customers
1. Pricing Competition Intensifies (Short-Term Win)
Two public AI companies competing for the same enterprise budgets means pricing pressure works in your favour — at least initially. Both will aggressively pursue enterprise logos to demonstrate growth to public markets. Expect:
- Competitive enterprise pricing (each trying to undercut the other)
- More generous volume discounts and commit deals
- Free or discounted migration support if you switch providers
- Enhanced SLAs and compliance certifications to differentiate
Enterprise action: Negotiate multi-year enterprise agreements NOW, before IPO. Lock in current pricing with caps on annual increases. Both companies want committed revenue on their S-1.
2. Revenue Pressure Changes Behaviour (Medium-Term Risk)
Post-IPO, both companies face quarterly earnings scrutiny. Revenue growth must continue. This creates pressure to:
- Raise prices: Once enterprise customers are locked in, price increases fund growth expectations
- Upsell aggressively: Expect constant pushes toward premium tiers, add-on features, and higher-margin products
- Deprecate low-margin offerings: Cheap API tiers that don't generate sufficient margin may be sunset
- Prioritise consumer over enterprise: Consumer revenue is higher-volume and more visible to analysts. Enterprise needs may get deprioritised.
3. Concentration Risk Doubles
If you're using both Claude and GPT (smart diversification strategy), you now have two critical vendors undergoing the same structural change simultaneously. Under DORA and NIS2:
- Both must be reassessed in your ICT third-party risk register
- Corporate governance changes (new board members, public reporting obligations) may affect data handling policies
- Both face the same market risks (AI regulation, compute costs, competition) — this is correlated risk, not true diversification
- Consider adding a third provider (Google Gemini, self-hosted open-weight models) for genuine redundancy

Watch on Skillshare →The Amazon Factor
Amazon's $13B investment in Anthropic (now worth ~$74B on paper) creates an interesting dynamic for enterprise customers:
- AWS Bedrock integration: Claude on AWS Bedrock benefits from Amazon's enterprise-grade infrastructure, compliance certifications, and existing enterprise relationships. This likely gets stronger post-IPO.
- Competing with your cloud provider's investment: If you're on AWS, Anthropic is your cloud provider's portfolio company. This means deeper integration — but also potential conflicts if you try to multi-cloud.
- Similarly: Microsoft's commercial relationship with OpenAI creates the same dynamic for Azure customers. Google's 14% Anthropic stake adds a third layer of complexity.
- Bottom line: Your choice of LLM provider is increasingly entangled with your choice of cloud provider. Platform lock-in compounds.
Enterprise Strategy for the Dual IPO Era
Recommended Actions
- Lock in pricing now: Both companies want committed enterprise revenue pre-IPO. Negotiate 2-3 year agreements with annual price increase caps (max 10-15%).
- Build the abstraction layer: LLM gateway/router that makes provider switching a config change. This is now urgent, not optional.
- Evaluate open-weight alternatives: Llama 4, Mistral Large, Qwen 3 — test them as fallback options. You need at least one option that isn't going through an IPO.
- Update risk registers: Both Anthropic and OpenAI need DORA/NIS2 reassessment given corporate structure changes. File updated assessments before the IPOs close.
- Monitor S-1 disclosures: When the S-1 becomes public, read the risk factors section carefully. It will reveal risks the companies have been downplaying privately.
- Prepare for M&A scenarios: Public companies can be acquired. What happens to your AI infrastructure if Amazon acquires Anthropic outright? Or if Microsoft fully acquires OpenAI? Have contingency plans.
